I Am Shark has announced they will be releasing the original soundtrack to Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, scored by composer John Williams for the first time on vinyl. This will be part one of three, continuing on the latest trilogy soundtracks, as well as I Am Shark's new face as an independent label for Film/TV/Game soundtracks. This release is available as a 2xLP on black w/ white splatter vinyl, black w/ red/gold stripe vinyl, green/brown marble, and blue, each limited to 2,000 copies -- as well as an unspecified amount on black 180 gram vinyl. 50 limited bundle packages will be available with all colors/pressed versions, and one random winner will receive a test press version of the album (only 10 test press copies exist). These are expected to ship on March 4, 2013.

Order here.

The Darth Maul variant if it would actually come out like that looks awesome.

8000 copies on colored vinyl + infinite numbers on black vinyl? Someone's maybe a bit over-confident about the appeal of the worst SW movie's music.

I was just talking to someone about that earlier on.
He probably has to sell 8000 to pay licensing for Lucasfilm and Sony haha.

a few people asking for technical specs for the pressing/calling into question if it was actually licensed, etc etc

I'm gonna order one of these, and I totally hate myself for it. Haha. Going to wait until there aren't just mockups of the colors before I bite though. Probably gonna go for the Obi Wan.

only 10 tests exist? don't they recommend that you get new stampers made after 1500? and wouldn't you get tests made for that? and don't most places give you between 3-5 tests when they make them?

THIS GUYS A PHONY!!!

Depends how he's getting them pressed. There are plants in the UK who press without tests but obviously that's at your own risk really.

But what I would say about this is unless this guy is REAL loaded I wouldn't send over too much of your money in case it ends up being like that Blink 182 record that never even ended up being pressed.

I'm still confused at the fact a DIY label which hasn't had any real big releases all of a sudden lands a deal to press for the first time the soundtrack to one of ... if not the biggest film franchise of all time. Especially since me and a friend couldn't even get a reply to get the rights to press an album by The Bled hahaha.

yeah this dude wouldn't be getting a dime of my money until it was an absolute that he had the vinyl and it actually existed. not even factoring in the cost of licensing this thing looks pretty damn ambitious.

Well they were expected to ship yesterday I know a bunch of people over at VC bought them when I was looking through that thread so might be worth keeping an eye over there to see who's saying they received it.

Making wooden boxes for those who ordered the full package which is pretty cool wonder how they'll look once they're done.
Still no pictures of tests or records or anything though.

Is it definitely not happening like? I kind of had a feeling this would happen since the first day it was announced.

He did reply to someone on twitter to say he would be giving out Test Presses to the people who won them and that it had taken a lot longer to do all this than he expected.
I don't think all hope is lost it just seems like it's taking a while. It's always a worry though because most people will be past being able to put in a claim.

" Hey Everyone, thank you for your incredible patience with this Star Wars release. At this point, since preorders were launched 6 months we've been waiting for the manufacturing to be completed and I still haven't had anything shipped to me besides the test pressing copies. I don't know why this is happening, I'm not happy about it either. We've put in a lot of time, effort, and initial investments to make this happen. I started this project over a full year ago to bring to life a series of records that I felt needed to be released in a proper way. 6 months is wayyyy to long to still be holding these orders, I don't feel it's my duty to be responsible for all of the customers money for that long of a time period with out seeing any product.

This will take some time, because I have to run everything manually, but over the next couple weeks and I'll be refunding peoples orders. I Am Shark will make Star Wars Episode 1 OST available again once we actually have the vinyl shipped to us and ready to be distributed to the customers, that way there is no waiting period. As far the vinyl bundle buyers, I will be holding your information and will email you before hand to see if you'd still like to purchase the complete set with the wood boxes, because those were limited and I'm not going to short anyone on their opportunities to get these great packages.

As far as the label goes, we have been progressing with setting up new releases during this down time and waiting period. Some really exciting stuff that I sure you'll all be interested in as well! Can't really keep everything on hold forever, it wouldn't be fair to you guys if we were releasing other new records and still waiting on a past release. So please stay in touch and keep an eye out for when we are going to make these Star Wars records available again, and you refunds will start to be process here shortly. If you have any questions just email me back, Thanks!"

That's going to kill his sales cause so many people will not bother re-ordering.
There's clearly lies somewhere as well because everyone who's pressed a record and most people who haven't know that once you have tests and pay your money (I bet that's where the slip up is) the records are on the way to being pressed.
Any sane person handing that kind of money would know why something is being delayed for 6 months yet he claims he doesn't ... Who's he talking to who is saying we don't know why we haven't pressed them this is weird. Haha.
All crazy.

I've never pressed a record, but just this week a Steve Moore 12" that was supposed to be released last summer was actually released by Future Times. Apparently the delay was caused by pressing plant trouble, so maybe it is possible to not have a record pressed in six months? The part where he doesn't know why nothing has happened for said six months sounds sketchy, though; wouldn't he be constantly in contact with the pressing plant if he was serious about the release?

the only way you couldn't get a record pressed in six months is either the plant closed down or you had to keep rejecting test presses...

Got my refund. I was basically on his dick about it the whole time though. Sent him a couple emails, tweeted him and whatever. I was the first to receive that message + get a refund.
